Business Resilience Assessment

Our assessment tools provide a baseline for benchmarking and continuous improvement

Strategic Assessment of Business Resilience (SABR)

Derived in part from our work as authors of the Department of Home Affairs Good Practice Guide: Organisational Resilience (2025) and the associated HealthCheck Tool, this assessment process surveys people within your organisation about their perceptions of the level of business resilience.

We can modify the survey set-up to collect data for different departments, functions and levels of management within the organisation. We produce a comprehensive report based on an in-depth analysis of these results. We can perform benchmarking of your organisation against de-identified results from other organisations.

While the survey is typically delivered digitally, this assessment is typically followed with an in-person workshop where we facilitate your team to unpack the results, establish the key drivers and complete action planning to support a continuous improvement program.

Post-assessment, organisations therefore have a comprehensive roadmap to support future initiatives in business resilience, backed by your own people.

Crisis Management Readiness Assessment (CMRA)

For organisations exploring the development of a dedicated Crisis Management Team we offer an approach that builds alignment, identifies key current and emerging risks that might lead to crises and establishes the level of current capability and training needs associated with a crisis management function.

Based in part on the requirements of ISO22361: 2022 Security and resilience - Crisis Management Guidelines, our approach combines a document-driven assessment of current systems and procedures, interviews with executives and managers against the requirements of ISO22361, leveraging our deep knowledge of other aspects of crisis management performance such as strategic decision-making.

Post-assessment, organisations have a clear view of their current level of crisis readiness, an integrated crisis risk profile and a crisis training needs analysis. You are positioned to move forward and build the crisis management capability yourself or use our dedicated expertise and resources if required.

Business Continuity Maturity Assessment (BCMA)

For organisations looking to uplift their business continuity arrangements we offer an assessment tool aligned to ISO 22301:2019 - Business continuity management systems, supplemented with our own experience in training and developing business continuity systems.

For organisations looking to uplift their business continuity arrangements we offer an assessment tool aligned to ISO 22301:2019 - Business continuity management systems, supplemented with our own experience in training and developing business continuity systems.

We audit Business Impact Assessments and Business Continuity Plans to establish the current level of maturity and the continual improvement actions necessary to mature your BC arrangements. This service is often combined with business continuity exercises to explore the effect of specific disruptions, workarounds, internal and external dependencies that require management. Organisations have also used this process proactively to explore emerging risks.

Strategic Decision-Making Capability Assessment (SDCA)

Based on over a decade of decision-making research in emergency and crisis contexts, this assessment tool can be used proactively in preparedness activities, or as an after-action review. It’s a deep dive into all things decision-making – often the capability that determines the success or failure of business resilience.

Originally built for understanding strategic decision-making in crisis management, the survey has expanded to encompass the latest science on decision-making and the practical application of this knowledge into artefacts such as SITREPS, decision-logs, checklists and memory aids as well as the actual process of making high consequence decisions.

Results are translated into a capability model that gives the business an understanding of the gaps and path to improving decision-making capability. This assessment is often paired with exercises or after-action reviews or proactively with the other assessments identified above.
